Zach is "The King"

Fun experiment for the next time you take in a Reds game with Zach Wells.
(No wagering - we frown on that here of course.)
But strictly for the sport of it... make a pregame guess at which number will be higher. Total number of strikeouts for the Reds starting pitcher... or the number of Arnold Palmer's Zach will consume over the course of nine innings.
Today's tally? Edinson Volquez 5 K's in 6 innings. Z Wells... 4 AP's thru six innings. You'll have to ask Wells if he kept up the same pace once the bullpen came in the game.
Either way... 6 straight good ones for the Reds.
And we can all drink to that.

"King"? Cincinnati sports analysts don't get "the King" label unless their last name is Nuxhall or Brennaman. Just kidding...Kinda. But who do we crown the King for this past week? Dunn or Volquez? Of course most people want to give it to Volquez but shouldn't we praise Dunn for what he has done this past week? I wonder if people think they are hypocrites if they do praise him because we've called for benching him, trading him and so on. Well the way it goes around here and everywhere else in the majors is you play good and hard we love you, you play bad and effortless we hate you. While Dunn has given us most of the bad and effortless part, we should give him props for what he has done this past week in hopes that he continues the recent success. It has never been personal against Dunn. We just like to know that someone is trying their hardest to play well and win (Freel). Long story short, we've given Dunn so much crap while he has been down, let's give him what he deserves while he is playing well (positive reinforcement). Dunn get's my pick for "King of the Week"

Great post, Jimmyjaim.

Couldn't agree more. I know Zach and I discuss Adam Dunn at length here in the sports department. We kind of feel like you do. The man has talent, but are we expecting more than what he can give? He is who he is, a home run hitter, who strikes out a ton. That's fine. No one is going to run the guy out of town for his offensive numbers. I think people want fewer gaffes in left field and more of the intangibles. They want to see more of a "want to" from Dunn. But, who are we to say he isn't an internal bleeder (as Dusty likes to say from time to time)? Maybe, behind closed doors, he takes things harder than we see.

I think Dunn deserves more credit for playing every day, staying healthy and producing the kind of numbers he's under contract to produce and a little less grief for not being the "rah-rah" public leader everyone wants to see.

He's 8 years into his career, I think at this point, what you see is what you're gonna' get from Adam Dunn.
